To continue the series on chess middlegames, I have decided to go over a very important tactical motif in the middlegame – the zwischenzug. Literally translated from German, this means an in-between move; a move that is not obvious, and that your opponent does not expect, which you play before doing β€œthe obvious”.

Often these moves are what determines the outcome of a game. I hope seeing example games with powerful zwischenzugs will help you find them during your own games!
