With a record audience for Day 1 of rapid play, Day 2 brought promise for some extraodinary playing on the rapid rounds. GM Garry Kasparov ended on a note of 2 draws and one loss. The wildcard GM Ian Nepomniachtchi had two draws and one win against Kasparov putting him in first place.
