German University Chess Championship (Rapid & Blitz) 2026

The German University Chess Championship 2026 (Rapid & Blitz) will take place on November 7–8, 2026, at the Humboldt University of Berlin, hosted in the modern Mensa Nord on Hannoversche Straße in the city’s academic quarter. Situated in the historic heart of Berlin—within walking distance of the Museum Island and the government district—the venue offers a distinguished and inspiring setting for this year’s most prestigious student chess event in Germany.

This annual championship unites the country’s strongest university players in a celebration of intellectual competition and sporting spirit. In 2026, more than 330 participants from over 70 universities have already registered, making it one of the largest and most vibrant academic chess gatherings in Europe. Over two intense days, the event will feature both Rapid and Blitz tournaments, combining the thrill of high-speed play with the camaraderie of a national university festival.

The championship is organized under the auspices of the German Chess Federation (Deutscher Schachbund) in cooperation with the Berlin Chess Federation, the German University Sports Federation (adh), and the Humboldt University of Berlin. Generous support is provided by the consulting firm d-fine GmbH, as well as the Emanuel Lasker Gesellschaft e.V., whose engagement continues to promote the legacy of chess culture and education in Germany.
More than a competition, the German University Chess Championship serves as a meeting point for students, recent graduates, and academic staff from across the nation—combining scholarly excellence with the enduring fascination of the royal game.
