The Panov-Botvinnik Attack can become a very bad weapon against the Caro-Kann if not played precisely. This was my round 6 of the Dubrovnik Advent Open 2024; https://chess-results.com/tnr991529.aspx?lan=1
I always struggle with the Panov if white understands it well. It’s a great way to fight the Caro-Kann because it leads to imbalanced positions in which both sides have a lot to play for. It avoids the typical e6 c6 structure, and it forces Black to play a sharp position.
The Panov can go badly wrong very quickly if white messes up the move order, though. Black can be better or even winning after a few simple opening mistakes. That’s what happened in this game.
