Featured is a sharp battle between Alexander Beliavsky and Vasyl Ivancuk from the 1989 Linares Chess Tournament. The opening is a Ruy Lopez, Classical with both queens quickly being deployed. Ivanchuk’s queen in particular was a star piece, accounting for 44% of all of Ivanchuk’s moves. Notice how in this dynamic 25-move game both queens were multi-purpose pieces throughout. Ivanchuk won this tournament, going undefeated with 5 wins and 5 draws.
