Kasparov’s Westerinen Attack ends in a stunning checkmate

Featured is a sharp chess game between Garry Kasparov and Molly Nesham from a 2017 MasterClass simultaneous exhibition. In response to the Sicilian Defense with 2…e6, Kasparov chooses b3, the Westerinen Attack. After Kasparov’s 11th move the position remains level, without a hint that Kasparov’s opponent is indeed a 1500-point underdog. Kasparov’s Nf5 sparks a sharp kingside attack that culminates in a stunning checkmate after only 26 moves.
