The Caro-Kann is my favorite opening. It’s safe and solid, but it also allows opportunities for aggressive play, as players such as Alireza keep proving. Regardless of what line white chooses, the Caro-Kann player has several options to choose from, and can keep things flexible. And, as this game proves, even sub-optimal lines, which deviate from main line theory, lead to pleasant positions!
