Mikhail Tal’s greatest attack, Tal – Koblents, Riga 1957 · Middlegame Strategy 1

Attacking is a skill chess players sharpen by studying great attacking games of the past. Tal’s games are the perfect tool. His attacks were imaginative, imperfect, mad, hard to calculate or sometimes even understand, and, most importantly, astonishingly beautiful.

He once said: “You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.”, and in his games he often did do just that. Figuring out all the tactics in many tal games seems impossible to me.

I am going to be showing some of the greatest attacking games of all time in this middlegame series, and Tal’s should be abundant!
