The problem of changing your mindset during a game · Road to GM, Game 272

Adjusting to the changes in the position is one of hardest things for me. I often end up stuck in a narrative I’ve chosen and keep playing in the same manner regardless of what the position requires.

This game is a great example of that. The position kept changing, and I kept playing defensively until the end, even though I could have switched plans to something more active or attacking at several points. Not going for counter play even though you have the opportunity to, simply because you’ve become accustomed to defending is a psychological mistake. It is something I will have to consciously work on during training.
