20 mistakes in a 27-move game · Road to GM, Game 221

This was a tough game. It rarely happens that you understand almost nothing.

I faced a Fide master in the Tal Caro-Kann, an opening I’ve been struggling for a while, in which thematic positional patterns are the most important factor. Knowing when and how to break open the position is key, and in this game I failed to react timely and correctly from start to finish, giving my opponent a very clean win.

I will learn a lot from this defeat. It highlighted several of my weaknesses and should help me pinpoint what I need to work on to improve.
