One of the most common questions chess players ask is “How to convert an advantage into a win?”. In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov teaches you how to do that by analyzing the game played between Magnus Carlsen and Vladimir Burmakin.

In this game, Carlsen had an extra pawn in a rook and bishop endgame. But both his rook and bishop were passive, so he decided to sacrifice the extra pawn to gain initiative. After that, he pulled off a brilliant victory in a bishop and pawn endgame, by creating a pawn break which allowed him to promote his pawn to a queen.
