Kasparov was a monster. No one should be that strong at 10.

Garry Kasparov was incredible at chess when he was only 10. In this game his almost perfect play tactically, strategically and positionally proves that he was close to Gm strength already.

Garry Kasparov – Shohrat Muratkuliev
Baku U18 Championship 1973
Ruy Lopez, Mackenzie Variation

We are continuing the Kasparov saga with a game that shows just how brilliant he was when he was just starting out. He faced a good opponent in the Ruy Lopez, in a very sharp gambit line he chose to enter.

The way he handled the position shows that he was already close to GM strength when he was only 10 years old. Perhaps this is Kasparov’s first immortal game. Anyway, he made only one mistake in the whole game. That’s just insane for a child that young.
