To continue the series on chess middlegames, I have covered a very powerful middlegame theme – restricting and blockading your opponent’s pieces or even his entire position.

Sometimes a piece is worthless. Even though it mathematically is worth 3 or 5 pawns, if it has no scope, its value deteriorates and it becomes obsolete! Playing for a blockade or playing for restricting your opponent’s pieces can be very powerful and even decisive.

I have used four games to illustrate just how helpless one can get when their pieces are immobile. A piece is only worth as much as his current impact on the game!
