And the Blunder of the Year Is… | Training Game

A training game in the Qc2 (classical) Nimzo Indian. I played a patron and chose to play the ultra aggressive Noa Variation. A double edged line which seldom ends in a draw.

From now on I’ll be recording training games as often as I can. I have two measurable goals in my training weeks to come. Aside from working on the endgame, strategy, and a new repertoire, I have set a goal of reaching 2300 in lichess tactics (goal complete!) and 2100 in lichess classical.

Meruzhan played a great game. That I have to point out. He found a move which isn’t theory, but it made sense anyway! A bishop move which is usually played later on, and when he played it it seemed like a bad blunder. That might have been true in theory, but in practice….

Here is today’s game:

1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. Qc2 d5 5. cxd5 exd5 6. Bg5 h6 7. Bh4 c5 8. dxc5 g5 9. Bg3 Ne4 10. Be5 f6 11. Bd4 Nc6 12. e3 Nxd4 13. exd4 Qa5 14. Ne2 Bf5 15. Qb3 Bd7 16. a3 O-O-O 17. Qxb4 Qa6 18. Nf4 Qc6 19. Bb5 Qxb5 20. Nxb5 Bxb5 21. Qxb5 gxf4 22. f3 Ng5 23. Kd2 Ne6 24. Qd3 1-0
