Ding Liren and the Killer B’s | Armageddon, 2019 Altibox Norway Chess

Featured is the Armageddon game between Ding Liren and Wesley So from Round 1 of the 2019 Altibox Norway Chess tournament. The opening is a Queen’s Gambit Declined, Exchange variation (4….Nxd5). A couple instructive moments include not only a thematic sequence of central pawn advances where Ding Liren has a 2:1 majority, but also a nice reorganization of the white queenside pieces which ultimately enables the white bishops to exert pressure throughout even without budging from the b-file.
