A Sharp Scandinavian! | Training Game

A 30’ + 5’’ training game against a 2156 rated opponent. It was a theoretical Nf3 Scandinavian Defense.

I played against “Neroazzuro” on lichess. He contacted me because he also plays the Scandinavian (including the Nf3 sidelines) and he asked me whether I’d like to train together. I was happy to accept a challenge from a higher rated opponent!

I couldn’t remember the theoretical lines at first, which was slightly embarrassing, but I managed after a while, and we entered the second most popular line in the Nf3 Scandinavian Defense. I played Be3, a move I don’t normally play, but I find the positions comfortable for white.

I had a slight advantage, but then managed to castle prematurely and three moves down lost a pawn as a consequence. I missed that he can take a pawn due to my queen being lose. So I was a pawn down.

I thought it was fairly equal still, but I was very wrong. He had a dominating position and I even blundered the second pawn, making it easier for him to crush me. He played a very good game and outplayed me completely. Still, it was a valuable lesson before the tournament!
