An instructive Prins Sicilian | Road to GM, Game 30

S. Tomic (1863 ELO) vs M. Trempetic (1979 ELO), Sicilian Defense, Prins Variation
V Cro. Chess League, Round 6, 09/23/18

My team is 1st in the Croatian league after 6 rounds! Out of 15 teams, we were 14th according to the ELO rating, and after 6 rounds we have 5 wins and one defeat, putting us in clear 1st!

In round 6 we played the 2nd best tea, our biggest rivals for first, Jaska. The matches are played on 6 boards, and I played board 4. We ended up winning 4-2! You can find the info here: http://chess-results.com/tnr332261.aspx?lan=13

My team, HAŠK Mladost is very close to advancing to the 3rd League. If we finish the season 1st or 2nd next year we are going to have a much stronger field to compete against!

I drew the game unfortunately, despite being 2 pawns up. My opponent and I played a very theoretical Prins variation of the Sicilian Defense (f3 line). And we entered a known position in which white goes a pawn up and black gets the bishop pair in a wide open position. It’s equal but imbalanced.

You can watch the video I made on the opening here: https://youtu.be/T7qzruXqPsw

I won the second pawn tactically and got a better position. The engine evaluation was +2. And then…

I played two consecutive bad moves and gave up my advantage. We entered a 4vs3 queen endgame and drew. Baaaad.
