Ruy Lopez, Berlin Defense w/ 4.d3 – Standard chess #52

I played on the white side of a Ruy Lopez, Berlin Defense and opted for the quiet 4. d3. In my experience, d3 often leads to a slow position where an ensuing strategic encounter is commonplace. This game however proves otherwise, with play sharpening in the middlegame after 15. e5. My opponent’s reply came as a surprise to me; I was simply blind to it. From then on, the battle over e5 would become the great focal point of the game. The Rapid time control for this game is 15 minutes with a 10 second increment.
