The Sicilian Dragon is is an opening for warriors, for players who want to go all out in battle, looking to take home the spoils. And there’s no better person to teach you how to emerge victorious than American GM Ron W. Henley.
GM Henley, aside from being a strong player in his own right, acted as second, analyst and trainer for former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov in many of his matches in the 1990s. Ron also trained 7-time US Women’s Champion, GM Irina Krush.
In this live stream, the first of three streams this week (other streams at Noon EST on both Monday 16th and Wednesday 18th), Ron will introduce you to the Accelerated Dragon opening from Black’s perspective. He’ll be looking at various Accelerated Dragon setups with the help of games that have been played by his students.
You learn strategic and tactical themes for Black, the strongest lines killer attacks and more. If you’ve ever been even slightly curious about the Sicilian Dragon, this is the perfect opportunity to learn. It’s an exciting opening that is sharp and effective.
The classical Dragon Variation of the Sicilian Defense begins 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 and is one of the sharpest and most extensively analyzed opening systems in chess. However, Black can also adopt the Dragon formation without the move 2…d6 by going for the Accelerated Dragon or the Hyper Accelerated Dragon. The move order 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 is called the Accelerated Dragon.
To become an expert in your openings, it’s not enough to just study theory. You need to be aware of the key tactical and strategic motifs too. When learning the Accelerated Dragon, for instance, it makes little sense to learn long theoretical lines by heart, if you haven’t been introduced to typical recurring patterns, and that’s exactly what you’ll get in this live stream. Don’t miss it!
