An Italian game (Giuoco Piano) played between Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Alexander Grischuk in rd. 4 of the World Cup 2017. held in Tbilisi Georgia.

It was an even positional game until MVL came up with a brilliant pawn sacrifice which gave him five tempi that pushed Grischuk back to the last two ranks.

An exceptionally instructive example of material vs quality vs time, Kasparov’s philosophy of three essential assets in chess.

Vachier-Lagrave gave up material for the initiative and utilized it ruthlessly.
