In the French Defense video “French 1″ by GM Daniel King, we take a look at the French Defense, one of the longest standing openings in the history of chess.
This is one of the most solid openings in existence because from the second move, Black erects a strong pawn chain in the center of the board. Despite not giving himself a lot of space, he has a position that is devoid of any apparent weaknesses.
At the beginning of the video, Daniel shows us the different third moves that White can play including 3. e5, Nc3, Nd2, exd5, and how Black can have a very solid position after each of White’s responses.
How can Black share control of the center with White’s competing pawn chain? In what ways can Black attack White’s center and attempt to blow it to pieces? Watch the video to find out!
Are you ready to use the Frence Defense?
