In the video “Maximize Your Success against 1.b4, c4, d4″ by GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, we take a look at the Bird’s Opening, which starts off the game with 1. f4. It is an interesting opening that reminds people of a Dutch Defense, but with the White color instead of Black.

The Bird’s Opening allows White to get an unusual type of position that doesn’t require them to study much theory, but can have good chances to attack quickly during the game.

Immediately from the starting move of the game, White is fighting for control of the e5 square. He will soon follow up with Nf3, and seek to increase his control of the center. This opening can be a powerful weapon against opponents who are used to main theoretical lines, but do not know what to do outside of those main types of positions.

How can White throw his opponent off with this radical opening? What moves can White make in order to start a quick attack or gain even greater control of the center? Watch the video to find out!
