The 2013 World Chess Championship has begun with two relatively peaceful games as both players continue to feel out their opponent’s preparation and approach. Round 2 of the World Chess Championship featured defending World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand opening with 1. e4 and World Chess Championship Challenger Magnus Carlsen employing the Caro-Kann Defense, something that has not been seen very frequently in Carlsen’s career and most likely came as a surprise for Anand. Carlsen easily achieved equality in the opening and slightly better chances in the endgame thanks to a better light-squared pawn structure for his dark-squared bishop, so Anand agreed on a 3-move repetition leading to a draw on move 25. The World Chess Championship 2013 is currently tied at 1-1 with two draws in two rounds.
