The positional sacrifice is one of the most difficult maneuvers in chess, requiring a deep understanding of the subtleties in a given position to give up material in pursuit of positional gain. There are many types of positional sacrifices, ranging from a simple pawn sacrifice to an exchange sacrifice or even a queen sacrifice – however the main goal is the same, to beat down the opponent with overwhelming positional pressure to win the game.
