I opened the game with the Fianchetto Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined and black quickly gave me the opportunity to give him an isolated pawn, which I was happy to take. After 13. Na4, I think black really needed to play 13. …Bc7 as giving me the dark-squared bishop and allowing me to double his pawns with 14. Nxb6 are two big achievements for white. After 18. Qd4 white has achieved a sizable advantage and I should have simply won a pawn with 19. Bxe4 dxe4 20. Qxe4 — however I was too greedy and wanted more so I played for the initiative and pressure with 19. Rfd1. Unfortunately I had overlooked a very simple tactical trick that my opponent capitalized on with 19. …Nc4 — immediately solving black’s problems. I went in for an ending where I had a bishop and 2 rooks versus black’s queen and knight. I think white was doing good in this endgame although I made some inaccurate moves in time-trouble — which my opponent did not exploit because he was also in time-trouble. Eventually I gained the upper-hand and was able to premove my way to the win with 6 seconds remaining after 63. Qhh8#
