This brilliant game between USA’s #1 Hikaru Nakamura and Russia’s #1 Vladimir Kramnik is from Round 9 of the 2012 Chess Olympiad held in Istanbul, Turkey. Nakamura’s dynamic temperament for the game has him avoiding a draw by making a highly passive and risky move (23.Nb1) in the middlegame, with the move itself being incredibly rare and almost beginner-like in nature. It’s depth however soon reveals that white will be bought time to pursue a kingside attack, one that the former World Champion and strategic mastermind Vladimir Kramnik is able to quickly neutralize. The endgame acts as a whole new battle in and of itself, with an aesthetic finish to no doubt be remembered for many years to come. A historical game indeed!

Sadly, the final sequence of moves shown in the video were inaccurate but the game result was the same, white wins.

The game finished as follows, picking up with the correct 64th move:

64.Nb6 Kd4 65.Bg2 Be1 66.Nd5 Ke5 67.Nb4 Bh4 68.Nd3+ Kf5 69.Kxd2 Kg4 70.Ke2 Bf6 71.N1f2+ Kg3 72.Bf3 Bd8 73.Ne4+ Kh4 74.Ne5 Bc7 75.Ng6+ Kh3 76.Ne7 Bd8 77.Nf5 Bb6 78.Kf1 Kh2 79.Bg4 f3 80.Nh4
