White chooses a Blackburne-Zukertort set-up and black responds with something similar to the Schallopp Variation of the Slav Defense. White closes the center fairly early with 10. c5!? with the idea of creating activity on the queenside with 11. b4 and 12. b5. Black counters energetically with 12. …e5 and after multiple exchanges in the center white emerges with a long-term positional advantage thanks to his centralized Nd4 and black’s bad light-square bishop. White proceeds with an exchange sacrifice to break into the queenside and an accurate conversion of the attack.
