Robson played a relatively tame line in the Bg5 variation of the Najdorf Sicilian. Naroditsky reacted calmly and achieved a slight positional advantage. Robson got into time-trouble and committed a few decisive mistakes, most importantly misplacing his knight on the edge of the board with 24. na5. His king’s position then came under a strong attack by the heavy pieces of Naroditsky, and he quickly entered a lost endgame down an exchange (rook for a minor piece – knight/bishop) and 2 pawns to boot. A nice game by Naroditsky as the two young prodigies faced off in the US Championship.
