LeelaKnightOdds’s Vienna Game Turns Venomous Against Grandmaster

Featured is an excellent chess game between LeelaKnightOdds and Grandmaster Awonder Liang (A-Liang on lichess). Playing White without a king knight, Leela chooses the Vienna Game with the modest follow-up d3. After Liang’s 3…Nf6, Leela begins an early offensive with g4, subtly challenging Black’s control over d5. Leela goes on to establish two invasive pawns, the first on f5 through a natural capture, and the second on d5 thanks to a clever tactic. By move 21, Liang has a seemingly dominant knight on d4 that cannot be chased away, yet Leela’s precise piece coordination renders it oddly ineffective. A remarkable display by Leela in this one, and the finish adds a exclamation point to the game!
