LeelaKnightOdds’s Blackmar-Diemer Gambit Drops Grandmaster in 23 Moves

Featured is a 1+1 bullet chess game between LeelaKnightOdds and Grandmaster David Paravyan (“drop_stone” on lichess). Playing White without a king knight, Leela chooses the Blackmar-Diemer Gambit but deviates from the usual 3rd move Nc3, opting instead for Bg5. The timing of the bishop-for-knight exchange on f6 is especially interesting. Only after Paravyan develops his bishop to f5 does Leela commit to the capture. What follows is a piece sacrifice that creates multiple weaknesses on the Black kingside. Shortly after the sacrifice, the position leaves Black with a single winning resource. In this extremely fast time control, Paravyan misses his opportunity, and Leela applies continual pressure, forcing resignation in just 23 moves.
