LeelaKnightOdds’s Bird’s Opening Claws Grandmaster

Featured is a sharp rapid chess game between LeelaKnightOdds and Grandmaster Former_Player on lichess. Leela plays White without a queen knight and opts for the Bird’s Opening. Seven of Leela’s first nine moves are pawn advances. The Grandmaster treats the opening in gambit fashion, sacrificing the d-pawn in exchange for open lines and a significant lead in development. Leela faces tremendous pressure by going uncastled and allowing both black knights to invade the first two ranks. Still, Leela makes the Grandmaster’s task of finding the winning path extremely difficult. Black’s last real chance to press for the win comes on move 24, but opportunity slips away. Time control for this game is 10+3.
