Vaishali Breaks Badelka’s Pirc Defense

Featured is an instructive chess game between Vaishali R and Olga Badelka from round 3 of the Women’s FIDE Grand Swiss 2025. The opening is a Pirc Defense, where both players launch early kingside pawn advances, leaving Black with a protected passed pawn on e4 after 15 moves. The turning point comes with Vaishali’s well-timed g4 pawn break. In mutual time pressure before the move 40 control, Vaishali set a clever tactical trap around her d5-pawn. Badelka’s captured of the pawn was a blunder, and led to a sharp and swift finish.
