Caruana Cracks Firouzja’s Nimzo-Indian | Sinquefield Cup 2025

This is an instructive chess game between Fabiano Caruana and Alireza Firouzja from round 3 of the 2025 Sinquefield Cup. Out of a Nimzo-Indian Defense, Three Knights, Caruana establishes a strong pawn on d5. Firouzja’s knight on c5 emerges as his best piece, but Caruana methodically works to neutralize it. A couple of small missteps from Firouzja soon allow Caruana’s d-pawn to become passed, and from there it proves extremely dangerous. The remainder of the game is one-sided, with Caruana firmly in control, steadily improving his position while Firouzja, lacking counterplay, can only wait for his defenses to collapse.
