Lei Tingjie Punishes the Pirc Defense

Featured is a sharp game between Lei Tingjie and Antoaneta Stefanova from Round 3 of the 2025 FIDE Women’s World Cup, held on July 13. Against the Pirc Defense, Lei goes for an early Re1 and e5 advance, gaining space and steering the game into dynamic territory. The e5-pawn plays a key role throughout, limiting Black’s knight and opening tactical possibilities on the kingside. By the time Stefanova’s kingside knight gets back into play, White already has a decisive advantage.
