Ding Liren Destroys Ni Hua’s Grunfeld

Featured is an excellent chess game between Ding Liren and Ni Hua from the 2009 Chinese Championship. In response to the Grunfeld Defense, Ding’s queen rook plays first a defense role and next an offensive role. The idea to quickly transfer the queen rook along the 3rd rank towards the kingside for an attack breaks down black’s position after 35 moves. Even without queens the attack was decisive!
