In this video lesson, we’ll look back at the 5 most brilliant moves from the 10th World Chess Champion Boris Spassky.
He was a true master of both tactical and positional chess. Yet, many remember him only for his loss to Bobby Fischer in the Match of the Century.
But Spassky was more than just a rival to Fischer. He was a gentleman of the game, even standing to applaud his opponent after losing. Years later, when Fischer was detained in Japan, Spassky offered to share a prison cell with him in solidarity.
Spassky passed away on February 27, 2025, at age 88. Today, we honor his legacy by revisiting 5 of his most brilliant moves—a reminder of the brilliance that made him a champion.
