Featured is a sharp chess game between Vasyl Ivanchuk and Jakub Fus from Round 6 of the 2025 European Chess Championship, held on March 20th. Out of a Caro-Kann Defense, Advance variation play sharpens with 5. g4. The critical moment occurs after Ivanchuk pins the c6-knight. How should black defend against this pressure? Black doesn’t find the way, and after only 10 moves Ivanchuk obtains a decisive advantage. Ivanchuk’s kingside pawn play shortly thereafter ties black in a complete knot.
