The Chess Olympiad always offers interesting pairings and brings very surprising upsets. This year is no exception. Super Grandmasters don’t often lose to mortals. When they do, I try to figure out what had gone wrong.
In round 3 of the 2024 Chess Olympiad, Italy faced the Netherlands and Lithuania faced Germany, resulting in two huge upsets on the first boards.
