Ding Liren’s explosive idea in the Advance French

Featured is the Rapid chess game between World Chess Champion Ding Liren and Aslan Aitbayev from Round 1 of the 2024 World Rapid & Blitz Team Championships. Out of a French Defense, Advance, Aitbayev deploys his king knight to g6. This knight post provokes Ding into quickly launching his h-pawn. The problems Aitbayev faces are a cornered black knight, a thorny white pawn on h6, and a vulnerable black king position. Ding’s idea is to simply blast open the game, with c4 no less.
