My opponent surprised me very early in the Caro-Kann. Seeing a new line in the Caro-Kann is very rare for me, especially in the first few moves.
It was an exchange variation, which is what I play as white against the Caro-Kann, which makes this novelty by my opponent even more significant for me.

Instead of playing Bf4 in the exchange, my opponent went Qc2, a move I’ve never seen before, and a move that’s never been played in a master game. It’s not particularily good, and it allows black to equalize
immediately, but it sort of makes sense. It starts a quick kingside attack, which is what white usually does in the exchange.
