The opening is a Sicilian Defense, Moscow variation where play quickly liquidates into a technical major piece specific endgame. Take note of how Carlsen manages to activate his rook, and in the process render Dubov’s rook passive. There are instructive rook & pawn lessons, as well as king & pawn lessons to take away from with this game. Carlsen won the 2024 Tata Steel Rapid section with a score of 7.5/9.
