Chess endgames are very important for players of all levels. However studying endgames is even more important for beginner chess players because understanding basic principles in the endgame will increase your understanding of subtle positional concepts in the opening and middlegame as well. For example, knowing that in most positions you want to avoid placing your pawns on the same color as your bishop as it restricts the mobility of your bishop will definitely help you play better. Or understanding this rule as it applies to Bishop and Pawn endgames, for example if you and your opponent both have light-squared bishops – then whoever has their pawns on light squares will definitely be worse because the pawns will not only restrict the mobility of that bishop, they will be susceptible to attack from the opening. Below I have included the starting positions from the two exercises in the chess video – I recommend that you first try to analyze and solve these positions to test yourself before watching the chess video.
