Chess endgame skill is often what separates good players from average players. Enriching your understanding of chess endgames will give you the confidence (and skill!) to conduct a game well from beginning to end. It´s fantastic if you are an expert in the opening and middlegame, achieving near-winning endgame positions in nearly all of your games. But if you are unable to convert these endgame plusses – you should consider changing the emphasis of your study routine. And chess endgame skill is not just for converting advantages to full points – it is also about understanding subtle defensive resources to hold on to that half point for dear life with an incredibly resilient defense. In the follow chess video excerpt from the chess endgames DVD ¨The Will To Win: Mastering Chess Endgames¨ we will examine a few basic tricks in king and rook vs king and pawn(s) endgames. I have provided 3 exercises below – I recommend that you try to solve these problems before watching the chess video.
