Before Magnus Carlsen exploded onto the chess scene, the most famous player from Scandinavia was Bent Larsen, a Danish super-GM so awesome in the 1960s and 70s that today he is cited by Magnus as one of his chess heroes for his wonderfully creative sacrifices and innovative strategies.

Among his fantastic games was this gem, played against Czech-born GM Salo Flohr, in which Larsen deploys a bevy of amazing sacrifices to destroy his opponent’s king position.
