When you think tactics in d4 openings, it’s usually the Benoni or the KID. But. There’s a defense people often wrongly consider tame, slow, and positional – the Semi-Slav! If white chooses to play sharply against it, the positions are among the wildest in all of chess, with both kings often widely open, bishops flying across the board, and several open files. This game was like that – tactics in the opening, tactics in the middlegame, and in the endgame, finally deciding the winner.
