The Semi-Slav, like most other openings, is all about understanding the typical pawn structures, pawn breaks and piece placement. I found that it became much easier to play once I became experienced in all three. And, since I started playing it with both colors recently, I feel like my understanding should improve further. This game was a very typical example of a succesful c5 pawn break by black and white’s missed opportunities to prevent it. Once it happened, the game was dead equal, which is basically what black is hoping for out of the opening.
