Can you understand this endgame? ยท Road to GM, Game 263

I played a very complex rook endgame of which I understood little. It was full of subtleties which could have decided the outcome at several points.

With pawns on both sides of the board, a single rook endgame is all about calculation and making practical decisions based on your endgame knowledge. Knowing simple endgames is key, such as an extra pawn with a rook in front of it, as happened in this game. I misjudged that simple endgame because I failed to understand that my king was too far away. I even had a win at one point, simply moving my king closer.

Apart form that, understanding the power of connected pawns in rook endgames is also key. I didn’t do that properly either. I chose incorrect trades, leaving me with a position much harder to win for no reason. Learn from this endgame.
