The principle of two weaknesses in practice ยท Road to GM, Game 264

This was a very instructive game because of the principle of two weaknesses in action. The material was equal, but I managed to create weaknesses in my opponent’s position very early on, and the whole game revolved around them until one of them finally became too weak to defend.

It was a thematic queenside pawn storm in the London, something less experienced players with black often allow by developing their queen to b6. This pattern gives white a clear edge, and, what’s more important, a clear plan forward – targeting the weakest points in black’s position.
