Complete positional domination · Road to GM, Game 238

This game is a perfect example of a positional squeeze. More space for your pieces, and more safe outposts, mean that you have a lot more time and more options. Improving your position then becomes a simple matter, and increasing your advantage easy.

My opponent got just such a position. I was dominated on all three sides of the board. I could barely move my pieces, and my imaginary attack on the kingside only led to my pieces being trapped and unable to move a single square.

I should have lost. I may have resigned had he not given me several opportunities to fight on. In the end. I managed to turn around a -10 position into a +10 position. Deservedly, I failed to convert too and the game ended in a draw. This was very instructive.
