One of the main problems beginner chess players face is that they don’t completely understand the value of tempo in chess, i.e. behind ahead of your opponent by developing your pieces in fewer moves. You would have probably heard “gaining tempo” or “losing tempo” – what does that really mean?

That is exactly what the RCA guest coach GM Marian Petrov will teach you in this video lesson, where he analyzes a game he played against another strong grandmaster. His opponent didn’t do any major blunder, but he ran behind Petrov’s pawns and played multiple moves with his bishops. This allowed Petrov to gain tempo, and he quickly developed all his pieces.
